Summary
This Cumulative Update 7 (CU7) package for Microsoft BizTalk Server 2020 adds support for Visual Studio 2022. It also contains hotfixes for the BizTalk Server 2020 issues that were fixed after the release of BizTalk Server 2020.Â
BizTalk Server uses a cumulative update (CU) model for providing fixes and updates. Each CU includes new updates in addition to all the updates that were included in previous CUs. We recommend that you test and then apply the latest CU to all BizTalk environments.
All new fixes are publicly released in the upcoming CU. Standalone fixes might be provided before the next CU if the reported problem is very important, has a significant business effect, and doesn't have a workaround. If standalone fixes are provided, they require that the latest released CU be installed.
Important information about the cumulative update package
This CU package is intended for installation only if you want to modernize your developer tools to Visual Studio 2022. As such, it's an optional update and not required for any other BizTalk feature. However, it's important to be aware that this CU requires a full new BizTalk installation and configuration from empty databases. For existing installations, see Uninstall and unconfigure BizTalk Server to remove it.
Additional information about this update
-
If you have BizTalk Developer Tools installed, you have to install the BizTalk Server Visual Studio 2022 extension (build 3.14.2.0 or later) in addition to this CU package. The extension can be installed from BizTalk Server - Visual Studio Marketplace or from within Visual Studio through the Extension Manager.
-
The ESBT Visual Studio extension for Visual Studio 2022 is required if you're using the ESBT Itinerary Designer. The extension can be installed from BizTalk ESB Toolkit Itinerary Designer - Visual Studio Marketplace or from within Visual Studio through the Extension Manager.
-
If the BizTalk Visual Studio Extension for Visual Studio 2019 is already installed, it will no longer work, and has to be uninstalled.
-
This CU requires that you re-create BizTalk groups for BizTalk Server instances that already belonged to a BizTalk group before the installation. The change sequence is as follows:
-
Remove existing BizTalk servers from the old BizTalk group.
-
Uninstall the old BizTalk version.
-
Install the new BizTalk version.
-
Create or join the new BizTalk group.
Existing BizTalk groups can't have different instances at different cumulative update level.
-
-
BizTalk solutions and projects don't require changes, but they have to be reloaded and rebuilt in Visual Studio 2022. They can be deployed only to instances that have this CU installed. Â
-
Adapters for Enterprise Applications, Accelerators, and BizTalk ESB Toolkit also have to be reinstalled to work together with this CU.

Note: If you're using the MQSeries adapter, MQSAgent.dll must be updated on the IBM WebSphere MQ server to the same CU level that's on BizTalk Server. To do this, make sure that you run the same CU setup on the IBM WebSphere MQ server. You might experience performance issues if you run mismatched versions.
