It is a Microsoft-developed, Transformer-based small language model (SLM) optimized to run on the device’s Neural Processing Unit (NPU), delivering fast, low-latency responses while keeping data local for privacy. Despite its compact design, Phi Silica supports capabilities such as text understanding, summarization, rewriting, and short-form content generation, and is available to developers through Windows AI APIs for local language processing without cloud connectivity.
