When you interact with Microsoft 365 Copilot, like during Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat conversations, Copilot learns key details about you and your work. What Copilot infers from your chats becomes memories that you can manage, like what your job role is, common tasks you need to complete, or skills you want to improve.

These saved memories become part of the context Copilot uses to generate responses, helping it stay aligned with your preferences.

Important: You can always delete memories to keep Copilot from remembering information you don’t want it to, or you can turn off the ability for Copilot to save memories.

Save information to Copilot Memory

Saving memories is On by default in Microsoft 365 Copilot. If Copilot comes across information that seems important to remember, it will ask you if you would like to save that information for future chats.

You can also tell Copilot to remember specific information in Copilot Chat.

  1. Go to Copilot Chat and sign in with your Microsoft 365 work or school account.

  2. In the Copilot Chat compose box, tell Copilot to remember a piece of information.

  3. Copilot saves your preference to Copilot Memory in Saved memories.

    1. Copilot Chat shows a notice that says Memory updated to let you know that the information is now saved.

Copilot manages your saved memories intelligently, merging related ones, updating outdated details, or removing ones when you ask.

Delete information from Copilot Memory

You are always in control of your data, including what Copilot remembers about you. Once Copilot has saved memories, you can manage those memories and even delete them from Copilot Memory.

  1. Go to Copilot Chat and sign in with your Microsoft 365 work or school account.

  2. At the top right of the Copilot app, select ... Copilot chats and more.

  3. From the menu, select  Machine cogs to access Copilot settings Settings.

  4. In the Copilot settings window, select  People with machine cogs for Copilot personalization settings Personalization.

  5. Find the Saved memories tile and select the Manage saved memories link.

    1. You can turn off Copilot Memory by moving the Saved memories toggle to the Off position.

      1. Turning off Copilot Memory doesn’t automatically delete already saved memories. If you want to delete memories, you have to delete them one by one or with the Delete all memories button in the next step.

  6. In the Saved memories pane, you can:

    1. Select  CoScribe Trash delete button icon. Delete next to any memory to remove it from Copilot Memory.

    2. Select the Delete all memories button to delete all memories from Copilot Memory.
