Improvements and fixes

This update fixes the following issues:

• When Outlook starts Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) Autodiscover process, it never tries to do an anonymous HTTP request. Instead, it tries to do BASIC authentication by using an account without password at the first time.

  Note To fix this issue, you have to set the value of the registry key EnableEASAccountCreation to disable the EAS Autodiscover feature after you install this update. See KB4018306 for more information.

• Assume that you have KB3178664 installed and opened an Excel Worksheet already. When you try to open FreeDoc Excel Worksheets from a public folder in Outlook 2016, you receive the following error message:

  Outlook cannot track the program used to open this document. Any changes you make to the document will not be saved to the original document.

• Outlook may fail to use the secondary Exchange Web Service (EWS) URL that's specified by the Exchange Administrator if the primary URL doesn't work.

• You cannot copy and paste an SMTP address that's from an external recipient to the To, Cc and Bcc lines of a new message in Outlook 2016.

• When you add a non-specification-compliant RSS feed to Outlook 2016, Outlook 2016 crashes. This issue occurs when one of the RSS feeds contains empty element if the RSS or an ATOM feed does not have a field that's required by their format specification.

• When you set up some email accounts in Outlook 2016, Outlook may crash if the Exchange Autodiscover settings aren't available.

This update also improves the translation of string “99+” for the Japanese version of Office 2016 to make sure that the meaning is correct.

To determine whether your Office installation is Click-to-Run or MSI-based, follow these steps:

1. Start an Office 2016 application.

2. On the File menu, select Account.

3. For Office 2016 Click-to-Run installations, an Update Options item is displayed. For MSI-based installations, the Update Options item isn't displayed.

How to uninstall this update

Windows 10

1. Go to Start, enter View Installed Updates in the Search Windows box, and then press Enter.

2. In the list of updates, locate and select update KB4018296, and then select Uninstall.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then select Search. If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then select Search.

2. Enter windows update, select Windows Update, and then select Installed Updates.

3. In the list of updates, locate and select update KB4018296, and then select Uninstall.

Windows 7

1. Go to Start, enter Run, and then select Run.

2. Enter Appwiz.cpl, and then select OK.

3. Select View installed updates.

4. In the list of updates, locate and select update KB4018296, and then select Uninstall.
