This article describes an issue for caption bar buttons in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2. A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. The hotfix has a prerequisite.

Symptoms

Caption bar buttons, such as Minimize, Maximize, and Close, disappear or display incorrectly in windows that have a custom window region in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, install the hotfix that is described in this article.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must first install the update 2919355 on Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2.  For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Registry information

To use the hotfix in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

Restart requirement

You must have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace a previously released hotfix.
