Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.

  • You install the update in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

    2756872 Windows 8 Client and Windows Server 2012 General Availability Cumulative Update

  • You try to play videos that have protected content in certain applications.

In this scenario, the video does not play. You may receive error codes that vary, depending the video player that you used.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, install this update on the computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.

Install this update from Windows Update To open Windows Update, follow these steps:

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.)

  2. Tap Settings. (Or, if you are using a mouse, click Settings.)

  3. In the search box, type Windows Update.

  4. Tap or click Install optional updates.

File information

The English (United States) version of this update uses a Microsoft Windows Installer package to install the update. The dates and the times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in the following table. When you view the file information, the date is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
