This article describes an issue that occurs when you use RDP to run a RemoteApp application in Windows Server 2012 R2. A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. The hotfix has a prerequisite. Additional steps for configuration are required to enable this hotfix after the installation.
Symptoms
This issue occurs because the Dynamic dots per inch (DPI) sync setting for the remote desktop is not configurable. The Dynamic DPI sync feature automatically determines the DPI from the client side, and it ignores any server setting. Therefore, when the DPI of the client is much larger than the DPI of the server, this issue occurs.Â
Note RDP represents Remote Desktop Protocol.
Resolution
To disable the feature, we have released a hotfix for Windows Server 2012 R2.
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix Download Available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

To apply this update, you must have update 2919355 installed in Windows Server 2012 R2.

To enable this hotfix, follow these steps:

In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations -
Right-click WinStations, click New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.

Name the new registry entry as IgnoreClientDesktopScaleFactor.

Double-click the IgnoreClientDesktopScaleFactor registry entry.

In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 in the Value data field, and then click OK.

Exit Registry Editor.

To enable the Dynamic DPI sync feature, set the IgnoreClientDesktopScaleFactor registry entry value to 0, or delete the registry entry.

You have to restart the server after the registry is changed.

You may have to restart the computer after you install this hotfix.
Hotfix replacement information
This hotfix does not replace a previously released hotfix.
The global version of this hotfix installs files that have the attributes that are listed in the following tables.
