Problem

When running Revolution R Windows for Windows IDE over a Windows RDP connection, the IDE may hang or be unable to close when work is finished and issue the popup saying:

"Revolution R Enterprise for Windows is waiting for an operation to complete..." and offering only the options to switch to another application or continue waiting.

Solution

This is typically caused by a problem in the Visual Studio components. which the Revolution R Enterprise for Windows IDE uses, and a conflict with another application or service that also uses them. It is sometimes possible to free up the IDE without losing work by identifying and stopping the other process or service. One component known to contribute to this problem is the Windows print spooler process (splwow64.exe). Stopping this process in the Windows task manager may resolve the issue.

To avoid the issue, the base RGui.exe or an alternate IDE like RStudio or Eclipse StatE may be used instead of the RPE.
