Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install the Remote Desktop Protocol 8.0 update on a computer that is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1.

  • You install the Asian language packs.

In this scenario, the computer crashes randomly, and you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

0x0000008E (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)

Notes

  • The Stop error describes a KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED issue.

  • The parameters in this error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.

  • Not all "0x0000008E" Stop errors are caused by this issue.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
