Symptoms

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 of Microsoft Host Integration Server 2006 ignores the Connection Pooling property when you use the OLE DB provider together with a Microsoft SQL Server linked server. Because of this, there may be many open connections to the mainframe.

Additionally, when you run the following command, you see that the number of connections to the TCP/IP address and the port number of the host increases continuously:
netstat –ano –p TCP

For example, after you run this command, you may see the following information:
TCP 65.53.233.90:4816 10.195.144.4:446 TIME_WAIT
TCP 65.53.233.90:4817 10.195.144.4:446 TIME_WAIT
TCP 65.53.233.90:4818 10.195.144.4:446 TIME_WAIT
TCP 65.53.233.90:4819 10.195.144.4:446 ESTABLISHED
TCP 65.53.233.90:4820 10.195.144.4:446 TIME_WAIT

Cause

This problem occurs because OLE DB Provider for DB2 of Host Integration Server 2006 for DB2 cannot parse the Connection Pooling connection string property when the OLE DB provider uses a linked server.
