Symptoms
The touch input feature does not work in Windows Journal after the system wakes from sleep mode while the program is running.
Cause
This problem occurs because of an issue in the Windows Inking Service Provider service that is used by Windows Journal. The service does not detect correctly the power state change of the touch controller hardware that occurs when the system transitions into and out of sleep mode. This breaks communication between the Windows Inking Service Provider and the touch controller until the application is restarted and the connection is reestablished.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, install update rollup 2975719.
Status
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
Workaround
To work around this problem, save your current Windows Journal document, and then reopen the application. This reestablishes the handle between Windows Journal and the touch controller so that the device can communicate with the program as expected.
