Applies ToDynamics NAV 2009

This article applies to Microsoft Dynamics NAV for all countries and all language locales.

Symptoms

When you copy cell content from Microsoft Excel to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Service Pack 1 (SP1), two special characters are incorrectly added at the end of the copied value. These characters are two rectangles with line-feed. For example: 123456â–¡â–¡. Therefore, you have to delete these two characters. However, when Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Microsoft Excel are running on Windows 7, these two special characters are invisible and you have to delete the empty spaces.

Cause

When you copy a cell value from Microsoft Excel in ANY application, the CR and LF symbols (#13#10) are added. The RoleTailored client (RTC) uses text control that is based on standard .NET text control. A simple .NET form application behaves similar. So when .NET text control has multiline property set to NO when pasting in a control text that contains the characters (#13#10), only text before those characters is copied. For example, when you try to copy "Line1 #13#10 Line2", only "Line1" will be accepted and copied. When text control has Multiline set to true, then the "New line" character is enabled. Some documentation can be found in the following website:TextBoxBase.Multiline Property
