Introduction

This article describes an update that resolve issues when you use Work Folders together with either the Windows Server Backup feature or Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) to perform an application-consistent backup or restore in Windows Server 2012 R2. Sync Share Service Writer for Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) prevents an application-consistent restore when you use the Windows Server Backup feature or DPM. After you install this update, the following issues are resolved:

  • Incorrect security principal on the VssAccessControl registry key.

  • The Windows Server Backup feature does not invoke the VSS writer during a restore.

  • Inability to select individual Work Folder sync shares for a restore operation by using DPM console.
