Update Rollup 9 for System Center 2016 Service Manager

Introduction

This article describes the issues that are fixed in Update Rollup 9 for Microsoft System Center 2016 Service Manager. This article also contains the installation instructions for this update.

Improvements and issues that are fixed

• Enables support for the MSOLEDBSQL driver so that users can move from SQL Native Client. Manual steps are required to use the MSOLEDBSQL driver together with SQL Server Analysis Server (SSAS). (See the next section.)
  

• Fixes an issue in which the query results are not localized if the language of the portal is non-English.
  

• Fixes an issue in which the user is not able to submit a service request if one of the lists contains an item that included a plus sign (+).
  

• When you submit a service request, the new default is that the first item in the list is not selected. This makes sure that the right category item is selected by the user.
  

• Fixes an issue in which some users cannot submit requests through the portal, and they receive a "The given key was not present in the dictionary" error message.
  

• Supports the SCCM 1806, 1810, 1902, 1906, 1910, and 2002 releases. However, the size of the devices that are supported by SCCM is limited to less than 2 PB. 
  

Steps to change the provider in SQL Server Analysis Server

Important: Follow these steps only after you install the latest SQL driver (MSOLEDBSQL or the Microsoft SqlClient Data Provider for SQL Server) on the SQL Server Analysis Server role. For more information about how to install MSOLEDBSQL, see Microsoft OLE DB driver for SQL Server. For more information about SqlClient, see Overview of the SqlClient driver.

1. Open SQL Server Management Studio, and connect to the Analysis Services role.

2. Expand Databases > [Analysis Service DB] > Data Sources.
   
   Note: In this path, replace [Analysis Service DB] with the name of the actual Analysis Service database (usually DWASDataBase).

3. Repeat the following actions for all listed Data Sources:

   1. Right-click a Data Source (such as DWDataMart), and then select Properties.

   2. Under General, select Connection String, select Connection Manager, select the Providers list. and then change the provider name, as appropriate:

      • For .Net Providers, select .Net SQLClient provider, and then select OK.

      • For MSOLEDBSQL provider, change the provider name from SQLNCLI11 to MSOLEDBSQL.

   3. Under Security Settings. select Impersonation Info.

   4. If you are using Windows authentication, provide the username and password, and then select OK.

   5. Select OK.

   6. Restart SQL Server Analysis Service from Services.msc.

Installation Instructions for Service Manager

Before the installation

Before you apply this update, follow these steps:

1. Exit all Service Manager-related applications before you apply this update. For example, exit the Service Manager Console, the Self-Service Portal links, and the authoring tool.

2. Make sure that the Data Warehouse Server has successfully synchronized with the Management Server at least one time.

3. Make sure that the update is installed on the Service Manager components in the following order:
   

4. • Data Warehouse Server

   • Primary Management Server

   • Secondary Management Servers

   • Self Service Portal Server

   • All Analyst Consoles

5. If you have customizations in the portal sidebar, edit the sidebar by using the steps in the "Customizing the left menu bar" section of Deploy the new Self-Service Portal.

6. Make a backup of the Views\Shared\Sidebar.cshtml file.

Installation

1. Download the update to a target folder. This update contains both the x86-based version and the x64-based version. Download the appropriate version for your system.

2. Open the target folder, and then right-click the downloaded file from step 1.

3. Select Run as administrator.

4. Accept the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then follow the steps in the installation wizard.

After the installation

1. Restart all the consoles as soon as the update is installed.

2. If any customizations were backed up for the portal sidebar (as mentioned in "Before the installation" steps), merge the required changes in the updated Views\Shared\Sidebar.cshtml file.

3. Restart the system that is hosting the portal server that is running IIS.
