Symptoms

When you debug native code of a process that's running on a system that supports the Intel Memory Protection Extensions (MPX), but not the Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) technology in Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 on a local computer, Visual Studio 2015 crashes. If you perform the debugging remotely, the debug session ends, and you may receive the following error message:

The remote debugger has encountered a serious internal error, and must abort the remote debugging session. Please restart debugging

Resolution

How to obtain this hotfix

For local scenarios, install KB 4025751 to fix the crash. This hotfix also requires Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 to be installed.

For remote scenarios, install the Remote Tools for Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 (8/4/2017 release date or later versions) to fix the termination of the debug session.
