Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You configure the system locale as Russian (Russia) on a computer that has Microsoft Lync 2010 installed.

  • You sign in to Lync 2010, and then you join an online meeting.

  • A user joins the meeting by using Lync Web App for Lync 2013.

  • The user sends you a Cyrillic message in a conversation window. For example, the user sends a message such as "па русском языке."

In this scenario, the message that you receive is displayed incorrectly in the conversation window in Lync 2010. For example, the message is displayed as "-++ T-."

Note This issue may also occurs when system locale is set to the following East European languages:

  • Polish

  • Hungarian

  • Lithuanian

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:

2884632 Description of the cumulative update package for Lync 2010: October 2013

Cause

This issue occurs because the Lync 2010 client requests a message from MIME in a different format after the client sends the message to MIME in UTF-8 format.
