Symptoms

When you insert a Digital Rights Management (DRM)-protected video file into a Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 or PowerPoint 2010 presentation, you receive the following error message:

PowerPoint cannot insert a video from the selected file. Verify that the path and file format are correct, and then try again.Alert ID: 400153

When you insert a DRM-protected audio file into a PowerPoint 2013 or PowerPoint 2010 presentation, you receive the following error message:

PowerPoint cannot insert an audio from the selected file. Verify that the path and file format are correct, and then try again.Alert ID: 400152

Therefore, you cannot play back this file in PowerPoint 2013 or PowerPoint 2010.

Workaround

To work around this issue, obtain the file without DRM protections. Or, insert a Windows Media Player ActiveX control. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. In PowerPoint 2013 or PowerPoint 2010, enable theĀ Developer tab if it does not appear in the Ribbon. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click the File tab, and then click Options.

    2. In the PowerPoint Options dialog box, click Customize Ribbon.

    3. In the Customize the Ribbon list, select Main Tabs.

    4. Under Main Tabs, click to select the Developer check box.

    5. Click OK.

  2. In PowerPoint 2013 or PowerPoint 2010, click theĀ Developer tab.

  3. In the Controls group, click More Controls.

  4. In the More Controls dialog box, select Windows Media Player, and then click OK.

  5. In the Controls group, click Properties.

  6. In the Properties dialog box, double-click Custom.

  7. In the Windows Media Player Properties dialog box, click Browse to select the DRM-protected file, and then click Open.
