Encryption is the process of converting data into a code to prevent unauthorized access. In Windows, this can be achieved using built-in tools that allow you to encrypt files and folders, ensuring that only individuals with the correct decryption key can access the contents.
Note: File encryption is not available in the Home edition of Windows.
To encrypt a file or folder:
-
Right-click a file or folder and select Properties
-
Select the Advanced...
-
Select the Encrypt contents to secure data check box
-
Select OK to close the window, select Apply, and then select OK
