Access all your files saved and backed up in OneDrive without downloading all of them and using up the storage space on your device. If you have Windows 10 or macOS 10.14 or newer, turn on Files On-Demand and set which files are always available locally on your device and which files are only available when you’re online.

With Files On-Demand, you’ll see all your OneDrive files in File Explorer or Finder and when you’re connected to the Internet, you’ll be able to use the files like every other file on your device.

Turn on Files On-Demand

  • Make sure you’re signed in to OneDrive on your device.

  • Select a OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar notification area.

OneDrive in Taskbar

  • Select Help &Settings Settings.

  • On the Settings tab, select the Save space and download files as you use them box.

Learn about OneDrive Files On-Demand for Windows or for Mac including how to turn it on, what the different file statuses mean in File Explorer, and how to mark files or folders for offline use or as online-only.
