Occasionally, your Windows 10 device might show you a notification indicating your device needs an update. Here’s what you need to know if you see this message: “You’re not receiving security updates.” Select any header, and it'll open to provide more information:
You're seeing this message because your version of Windows 10 is out of service and hasn't received an update for a significant amount of time. Each version of Windows 10 is supported for 18 months. After service ends, you'll need to update to a newer version of Windows 10 or upgrade to Windows 11 to continue getting Windows updates and security fixes. It's likely that Windows has tried to update your device and has been unsuccessful. This means your device security may be at risk. Your security is important to us, so we want to let you know what to do in these instances.
Regular updates help keep your device and data secure and help protect your PC from viruses, spyware, and other malware. If you’re seeing this message, it means your device is not receiving the latest security updates and may be at risk. We strongly suggest you get regular updates as they become available.

It’s important to take action to update to the latest available version of Windows 10. Windows Update works automatically to keep you secure by default, but your attention is needed once a device reaches the end of service.
Select Check for updates to visit the Windows Update page in Settings, or go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update . On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates. Then, download and install any available updates. If your device meets the minimum system requirements, you can also install Windows 11.
It’s possible that an issue on your device is preventing the update or that your device cannot support the latest version of Windows. Issues preventing updates may include driver problems, not enough free disk space, or other problems.
You can do several things to help get your device updated and more secure:

Take your PC to a qualified repair technician for help updating.

Reinstall Windows 10 to return your PC to a cleaner state and try to fix issues. For instructions, see Reinstall Windows.

Move to a new Windows 11 PC. Sometimes an older device can’t support newer versions of Windows, leaving it vulnerable to security threats. You may want to consider moving to a new, modern Windows 11 PC. These PCs come with the built-in protection of Windows 11 updates and include new features. Learn more about Windows 11.
