Support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025

After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates from Windows Update, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. Your PC will still work, but we recommend moving to Windows 11.

If the progress of the Windows Upgrade Assistant is stuck at 99% for more than four hours, follow these steps to attempt to fix the issue:

Important: Make sure to follow these steps before restarting the Windows device. Otherwise, the Media folder might be unavailable.

  1. Right-click on the Start menu and select File Explorer.

  2. In the address bar of the File Explorer window that opens, enter:C:\$GetCurrent and then select Enter.

  3. Right-click on the Media folder in the $GetCurrent folder and select Copy.

    Tip: If the Media folder isn't visible, in the File Explorer window, select the View menu. In the Show/hide section, make sure the Hidden items checkbox is selected.

  4. Right-click on the Desktop and select Paste. The Media folder should copy to the Desktop.

  5. Restart the Windows device by right-clicking on the Start menu and then selecting Shutdown or sign out > Restart.

  6. When the Windows device finishes restarting, log back into Windows.

  7. Right-click on the Media folder located on the Desktop and select Copy.

  8. Right-click on the Start menu and select File Explorer.

  9. In the address bar of the File Explorer window that opens, enter:C:\$GetCurrent and then select Enter.

  10. Right-click in the C:\$GetCurrent folder and select Paste. The Media folder should copy to the C:\$GetCurrent folder.

  11. Right-click on the Media folder located in the C:\$GetCurrent folder and select Open.

  12. Right-click on the Setup file located in the Media folder and select Open.

  13. The Windows upgrade restarts. Follow the instructions to proceed with the Windows upgrade. On the Get important updates screen, select Not right now, and then select Next.

  14. Follow the instructions to finish upgrading to Windows 10.

  15. After the Windows 10 upgrade is done, make sure to install available updates.

To install updates after the Windows 10 upgrade is done, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on the Start menu and then select Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update . Or Select the following Windows Update shortcut:

    Open Windows Update

  2. In the Windows Update window, select the Check for updates button.

  3. Once available updates populate, install all available updates.

  4. After all updates are finished installing, restart the Windows device by right-clicking on the Start menu and then selecting Shutdown or sign out > Restart. Restart the Windows device even if none of the updates required a restart.
