Office updates fail to download in Configuration Manager current branch, version 1910

Symptoms


After installing Windows updates released on October 13, 2020, Configuration Manager, version 1910, is unable to download Office 365 updates. The specific Windows update article ID varies by build; for example, KB 4579311 is the article ID for Windows 10, version 2004, and Windows Server version 2004.
Errors resembling the following are recorded in the PatchDownloader.log on the computer downloading the content.

Important installation note

This hotfix prevents the Configuration Manager console from upgrading successfully after a version update, such as from version 1910 to 2002.


If this hotfix (KB 4575784) is installed in a version 1910 environment prior to updating to version 2006, the Configuration Manager console upgrade to the 2002 or 2006 version will fail. A message resembling the following is displayed onscreen.


Errors resembling the following are recorded in the AdminUI.ExtensionInstaller.log.

To resolve this issue after updating from Configuration Manager current branch version 1910 to version 2002, perform the following steps then restart the console upgrade process.

To resolve this issue when updating from Configuration Manager current branch, version 1910 to version 2006, perform the following steps then restart the console upgrade process.

Hotfix availability

This update is available in the Updates and Servicing node of the Configuration Manager console for environments that are installed by using early update ring or globally available builds of version 1910, and have the following update rollup installed.
