Windows Media Player can't connect to the server hosting the content that you want to play.
Things to try
- If you entered a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) address in the Open URL dialog box, verify that the file name is spelled correctly and that the path to the file is correct, and then try again. If you clicked a link on a webpage, the link might not be valid.
- Try again later. The server might be temporarily unavailable (for example, the server could be busy or offline).
- Verify that the proxy server settings for Windows Media Player are correct.
To verify your proxy server settings
- Depending on which version of Media Player you're using, either select Organize, and then select Options, or select the arrow below the Now Playing tab, and then select More Options.
- Select the Network tab.
- Under Streaming proxy settings, verify your settings.
If you don't know what your proxy server settings should be, on the Network tab, select a protocol, select Configure, and then select Autodetect proxy settings or Use proxy settings of the web browser (available for HTTP protocol only).
