A user receives emails that were not intentionally addressed to them

When you use Microsoft Outlook client to connect to a Microsoft Exchange server mailbox, you may receive an email message that was not intentionally addressed to you.

This issue occurs because there is a special character in one of the below Active Directory attributes within the user's account. These attributes are used for Name Resolution in Outlook client. Unexpected results such as the issue describes above can occur when these attributes contain unexpected characters.
  • Office
  • Telephone number
  • Home
  • Mobile

To solve this issue, remove the special characters from the fields in the Active Directory user account and allow time for the change to replicate to all servers.
