April 17, 2018—KB4093116 (Preview of Monthly Rollup)

Applies to: Windows Server 2012Windows Embedded 8 Standard

Improvements and fixes

This non-security update includes improvements and fixes that were a part of KB4093123 (released April 10, 2018) and also includes these new quality improvements as a preview of the next Monthly Rollup update:

  • Windows Update and WSUS will offer this update to applicable Windows client and server operating systems regardless of the existence or value of the "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat\cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc" registry setting. This change has been made to protect user data.

  • Addresses additional issues with updated time zone information.

  • Addresses an issue that causes Microsoft Windows to leak a large number of handles in the LSM.exe process. Eventually, smart card applications will begin receiving “SCARD_E_NO_SERVICE” errors.

  • Addresses an issue that causes a communication failure in an RPC-based network in certain situations. The error is “reason_not_specified_reject”.

For more information about the resolved security vulnerabilities, see the Security Update Guide.
