How to: Uninstall Internet Explorer 8.0 from Windows Vista
If you have problems with Internet Explorer 8, you might want to try Compatibility View or our guided help to see whether you can fix the problem. However, if you just want to uninstall, or remove, Internet Explorer 8, this article helps you do that.When you remove Internet Explorer 8, your earlier version of Internet Explorer is restored with your customizations (such as add-ins, Favorites, and your home page).
To uninstall Internet Explorer 8 yourself, follow the instructions for your version of Windows. To follow these steps, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator. Alternatively you can also use the automatic Microsoft Fix it solution at the bottom of the article to have Internet Explorer 8 uninstalled.
- Click on Start, then Control Panel
- In the Control Panel, select Programs.
If you cannot see programs you will need to switch from classic view to control panel home, as per the screenshot below.
- Select System and Maintenance located on the left hand side.
- Select View Installed Updates.
- Select Windows Internet Explorer 8, and then click the Uninstall button .
- If you are sure you want to uninstall, just select Yes.
Note: You may then be asked to authenticate this process in Windows.
- You will see the progress bar below uninstall.
You will then need be asked to reboot your PC, please go ahead and do this and once it is booted back up Internet Explorer 8 will be removed from your PC.
To remove Internet Explorer 8 automatically, click the Fix this problem link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in this wizard.
Note If you are not on the computer that has the problem, you can save the automatic fix to a flash drive or to a CD, and then you can run it on the computer that has the problem.
