Some Office app features are only available to Microsoft 365 subscribers. If you see a message that says something like, “This feature is only available for paid subscribers” it means the account you’re signed in with doesn’t have a Microsoft 365 subscription.
Use Office on the web for free simply by signing in with your Microsoft account. Go to office.com and from the app launcher (in the upper left corner), select the app you want to use, such as Word or PowerPoint.
To use the premium apps, you need to have a Microsoft 365 subscription. If the account you’re using indicates you’re under 18, how to get that subscription will also depend how your account was set up.
Here are your options if you want to get Microsoft 365.
Option 1: Have an adult share Microsoft 365 Family with you
Microsoft 365 Family can be shared with up to 5 additional people. Ask an adult to share their Microsoft 365 subscription with you. If they don't already have a subscription, they can buy Microsoft 365 Family and once their purchase is complete, have them follow the steps to share it with you.
Note: Microsoft 365 Family is not available in all regions.
Option 2: Have an adult buy you a copy of Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Personal
You or an adult can buy a copy of Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Personal from a retail store. Follow the instructions on the packaging or email receipt to redeem the product key included in the packaging at setup.office.com and sign in with the Microsoft account you want associated with the product.
Option 3: Purchase Microsoft 365 yourself
If the adult who set up your Microsoft account allows you to make purchases, you can go ahead an buy Microsoft 365 yourself.
Option 4: Sign in with your school account if you use Microsoft 365 at your school
If your school uses Microsoft 365, your school may allow you to sign in with your school account and install the Office apps from office.com. See Download and install or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2019 on a PC or Mac for help installing the apps.
