The Search Navigation Web Part provides links that take users to different search verticals. This might include links such as People and Videos, which would take users to a people-search vertical and a video-search vertical, respectively. You configure properties for the Search Navigation Web Part in the Search Navigation Web Part tool pane. These properties include settings for the following:

Important: For SharePoint in Microsoft 365, the Search Navigation Web Part is available only in classic SharePoint.

  • The Search Results Web Part to get the query from

  • The navigation links to display

  • Appearance

  • Layout

The Search Navigation Web Part uses the navigation links that are specified in the Configure Search Navigation section on the Search Settings page for the corresponding site. The navigation specified there includes the links for search verticals and the order in which those links will be displayed in the Web Part. The order of the links for search verticals that are provided by default on the Search Settings page is as follows: Everything, People, Conversations, Videos, and Reports.

To add a Search Navigation Web Part

  1. Verify that the user account that is performing this procedure is a member of the Designers group.

  2. On the search results page, click Settings, and then click Edit Page. The search results page opens in Edit mode.

  3. Click Add a Web Part.

  4. In the Categories group under the ribbon, click Search.

  5. In the Parts group under the ribbon, click Search Navigation.

  6. Click Add.

To configure the properties of a Search Navigation Web Part

  1. Verify that the user account that is performing this procedure is a member of the Designers group.

  2. On the search results page, click Settings, and then click Edit Page. The search results page opens in Edit mode.

  3. In the Search Navigation Web Part, move the mouse pointer to the right of the title of the Web Part, click the arrow, and then click Edit Web Part on the menu. The Search Navigation Web Part tool pane opens under the ribbon at the top right of the page.
