In an activity diagram, an action state is a type of state that has an internal action and at least one outgoing transition that involves the explicit events that complete the internal action. In terms of notation, an action state represents the action-expression portion of the string describing an internal action in a state. A transition leaving an action state can be labeled with guard conditions and action expressions, but not with events.
