The Outlook Compatibility Checker informs you when a change that you are attempting will result in a loss of functionality.
(A common example of this situation would be when you have an email signature that has special formatting in it, but your email message must be sent in plain-text format. So Compatibility Checker would appear on the screen with a message that says, "Formatted text will become plain text".)
Plain text includes standard keyboard characters (including numbers, symbols, and spaces) but it does not allow for any type of text formatting. So an email message in plain-text format can't have links or different fonts or font sizes, and you can't apply bold, italic, or underlined styles to the text. You also cannot have a picture in a plain-text email message.
Are there other messages from Outlook Compatibility Checker that you need help with? To give us that feedback, answer the "Was this information helpful?" question at the bottom of this page, and then describe the message in the "How can we improve it?" box that appears.
