  1. Put your cursor at the end of the document, and then select Layout > Breaks > Next Page.

  2. On the Home tab, in the Styles group, select the  Word dialog launcher icon Styles dialog launcher.

  3. At the bottom of the Styles pane, select  New styles button New Style.

  4. Name the new style Appendix.

  5. At the bottom of the dialog box, select Format > Numbering > Define New Number format.

  6. Choose a Number style, for example: A, B, C, ... 

  7. In the Number format field, carefully insert your cursor before the character that's highlighted in gray.

  8. Type the word Appendix followed by a single space.

  9. After the letter A, type a colon if you'd like the style to include a colon (like Appendix A:).

  10. Select OK twice.

  11. At the bottom of the dialog box, click Format > Paragraph.

  12. Under General, for Outline level, choose Level 1. This displays the new Appendix style.

  13. Select OK twice and close the Styles pane.

  14. The new Appendix style will get applied to the paragraph at the top of the page. Type a description after the colon. For example: Appendix A: References 

  15. Then insert or update the table of contents. Or, add different page numbers or number formats to the Appendix section.
