When you add ink to a shared document, OneDrive will automatically create a private copy of your file so your annotations won't be affected by edits from other people.

To create a private annotation on any shared, non-private document in Microsoft Word:

  1. Go to the Draw tab.

  2. Select a pen.

  3. Ink your notes.

A copy of your document will be automatically created for you in a new screen, with permissions set to Private and the prefix "Private" added to your document name. The new document will automatically save to the Private Copies folder in your OneDrive. If you don't already have a Private Copies folder, we'll create one. Or, if you don't have OneDrive, the file will save locally on your device.
