Customize the Ribbon:    Shows a list of tabs, groups, and commands that are currently in use in Word. This represents the tabs, groups, and commands you see while working on documents. The dropdown menu lets you pick from three views or filters for the list.

List of ribbon tabs and commands options

  • All tabs    Displays both Main and Tool tabs, groups, and commands. This represents all possible tabs that can be used while working in Word.

  • Main tabs    Displays only tabs, groups, and commands for the top level tabs that are shown in Word, such as Home, Insert, Design, or View.

  • Tool tabs    Shows only tabs, groups, and commands that appear on the ribbon when you're doing something contextual, such as selecting a Picture (Picture Tools) or Shape (Shape Tools). Tool tabs are often multi-level, showing the overall tab (Chart Tools), and sub tabs and groups (Chart Design, Format).
