1. Type a name for the action.

  2. Choose the stereotype you want from the drop-down list. If a stereotype you want to use isn't listed, you can add a new stereotype or edit an existing one by clicking Stereotypes on the UML menu.

  3. Type any documentation you want to add to the element as a tagged value. When you select the shape or icon representing the element, the documentation you type here also appears in the Documentation window.

  4. Depending on the type of call you've selected, there may be other properties to complete, as described in this table:

    Choose the classifier for which an instance will be created when the create action is performed.

    Choose Asynchronous if the caller does not wait until the operation is executed but continues immediately. Choose Synchronous if the caller waits until the operation is executed.

    Choose the signal or exception being dispatched by the send action. Only signals and exceptions that have receptions on the class to which the state machine is related are listed here.
