When you attach an image that's larger than 1MB to an email, you have the option to compress/resize it.

If you choose to keep the original, then all images on the message are sent in their full size.

If you choose to resize, then ALL images on the message are compressed—this includes images added later while still editing that draft.
If you save the draft and come back later, and you add another large image, you will be asked again and your choice will apply to all drafts during that editing session.
