Go to Insert and selectÂ
  Symbol in the Symbols group.If you don't see the symbol you want, pick another font, like Symbol, Wingdings or Webdings.

Choose a symbol, select Insert, and then select Close.

Go to Insert and selectÂ
  Symbol. If   Symbol is grayed out when you select a cell, click in the formula bar. -
Choose a symbol. If it isn't expanded, select the
 Expand button on the right corner of the gallery. -
Double click the symbol you want and close the symbol gallery.
Inserting a symbol isn't currently possible in Excel for the web. You can, however, insert a symbol in the Excel desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop App.
