What is a consistent location-based experience?
When you consent to using a consistent location-based experience, Microsoft can use the location information it has for you and apply that across other Microsoft products you have also given this consent to. Location information helps us show places that are relevant to where you are. For example, your frequently visited locations and important locations will be the same for all products where you turned on a location-based experience.
How is my location information used?
Microsoft uses location information from your phone to provide a consistent experience across Microsoft products.
What location information is collected?
When you consent to using a consistent location-based experience in a Microsoft mobile app, we may collect latitude, longitude, and motion data from your phone or tablet using GPS, cellular network, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Learn more about location and general privacy at the privacy dashboard.
How can I see my location information?
Go to the Microsoft privacy dashboard, sign in with your personal or home Microsoft account (MSA), and navigate to My activity > Locations. You’ll see all the location information associated with your account and how to stop providing your location.
Can anyone see where I am?
Sharing your location information is your choice. Your location information is yours and will not be sold or traded. Microsoft Teams (free) allows you to share your location in each individual 1:1 or Group, which you can stop doing at any time.
How is my data secure?
We abide by Microsoft’s Privacy Principles and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We do not sell or trade your data. We do collect it to provide you a consistent location-based experience and improve how Microsoft products work according to the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
How can I opt out of consistent location-based experiences?
You determine the location settings for each individual app. To stop current location use, find the desired app in your phone settings and adjust the location permissions. When you turn off location permissions, you stop that particular app from collecting any new location information with your phone.
-
On iOS, go to: Privacy > Location Services > Teams.
-
On Android, go to: Settings > Apps > Teams > Permissions > Location.
Beyond location permissions in your phone settings, there may be in-app settings for location experiences. You can check these based on your account type:
If you have a personal or home Microsoft account, you can use location sharing with Microsoft Teams (free). How you opt in or out you control in each individual 1:1 or Group.
How can I delete my data?
Your location information is stored for up to 90 days, but you can choose to delete it at any time. Deleting or turning off location information can impact your consistent location-based experience.
If you have a personal or home Microsoft account (MSA), go to the Microsoft privacy dashboard > My activity > Filter by data type: Locations > Select Clear activity.
