As of June 2024, the mini Teams experience in Microsoft Teams (free) will no longer be available to those using Windows 23H2 or higher. If you're on versions of Windows below 23H2, you will continue to have the Chat signature experience available. To get the latest Windows experience, select Start > Settings > Windows Update, then select Check for updates. If updates are available, you can install them.

When you use Link to Windows with your Android in Microsoft Teams (free), you'll find it quicker and easier to manage the things you do every day. Your SMS text messages, contacts, and Meet links for video chats come together all in one place. You'll have instant access to everything you love!
Connect your Android to Microsoft Teams (free) with Link to Windows

You can link your phone from Chat on your taskbar or the mini Teams window depending on what version of Teams you are using.
Not sure which version of Teams you're using? If you see Chat in Windows 11 from your taskbar, then you're not on the latest version of Microsoft Teams (free) and Windows 11. Learn more about how to update Teams and Windows and get started with the mini Teams window.

Open Teams.

For Chat in Windows 11. Open Chat from taskbar. Then select What's new and more at the top of the Chat window > Link your phone.

For the mini Teams window. Open the mini Teams window from your taskbar. Then Select What's new and more > Link your phone. Make it easier to access the mini Teams window when you pin Teams to your taskbar.
Note: If you don't have any existing chats under Chat , you'll see a prompt to link your phone.

After the QR code appears on your desktop, scan the QR code with your phone.
Note: Link to Windows app is preinstalled on select mobile devices running Android 9.0 or later. For all other Android devices running Android 7.0 or later, you'll be prompted to download the Link to Windows app from the Google Play Store.

Enter the verification code that appears on your desktop into your phone. Then enter your Microsoft Account (MSA) password.

You'll receive several notifications on your Android device requesting permission to access things like your SMS text messages and contacts. Allowing access to this information lets us display it in the Link to Windows app and simplifies sending messages to contacts through Microsoft Teams (free). Review the requests to finish linking your Android to Microsoft Teams (free).
After the pairing is complete, you'll see your SMS text messages in the window under Recent. Your SMS text messages and the most recent one-to-one group chats from Teams are now in one place to view.
Note: To help keep your online experiences safe and positive, you can stop people from reaching you or showing you any inappropriate content by blocking them on your Android device. For steps, see the manual for your device.
You can unlink your Android phone in different ways depending on the Teams version you are using. If you're not sure what version you are using, see update Teams and Windows and get started with the mini Teams window.

In Teams, select More options at the top of the window > Settings .

Select Mobile device .

Select Disconnect SMS messages to discontinue sending and receiving SMS text messages on Teams or Cancel to exit without submitting any changes.
If you disconnect SMS messages, your text messages will be removed when you restart Teams.
Note: After disconnecting your Android from Teams, your phone remains linked with Link to Windows. You can unlink a device in the Link to Windows app at any time.
Get SMS text messages, notifications, and create Meet links for video chats in Teams
After you connect your Android to Microsoft Teams (free) with Link to Windows, you’ll have instant access to your contacts, where you can read, reply, and receive notifications to SMS text messages. You can also create a Meet link for a video chat and send it to anyone, even if they’re not on Teams.
You can reply to an SMS text message in different ways depending on the Teams version you are using. If you're not sure what version you are using, see update Teams and Windows and get started with the mini Teams window.

Open Teams.

For Chat in Windows 11. Open Chat from taskbar.

For the mini Teams window. Open the mini Teams window from your taskbar.

Go to Recent. You can see your text messages and most recent one-to-one and group chats.

Select the message you want to send a reply.

You can type your message in the reply field and use the Emoji button to include emojis in your message.

When you're ready, select Send to reply to the message.

Open Microsoft Teams (free).

Select Chat from the app bar on the left side of the screen. You can view your text messages and your one-to-one and group chats.

Select the message you want to send a reply.

You can type your message in the reply field and use the Emoji button .

When you're ready, select Send to reply to the message.
When you receive a notification, you have the following options: reply in the notification window, open the notification, or select the "X" to exit without submitting any changes.

Step 1: After the notification appears at the lower-right of the screen, type your message in the reply field.
Step 2: When you're ready, select Send to reply to the text message.

Step 2: After the Chat window opens, you can view the text message.
Step 3: Type your message in the reply field, then select Send to reply to the text message.
Create a Meet link for a video call in Teams
You can create a Meet link in different ways depending on the Teams version you are using. If you're not sure what version you are using, see update Teams and Windows and get started with the mini Teams window.

For the mini Teams window. Open the mini Teams window from your taskbar.

Go to Recent, select the person you want to video call.

Select Meet at the top of the window.

After you see the Meet link copied prompt, paste the link in the reply field and send.
You can invite anyone to join your call by sharing the link with multiple people. In Chat, go to For you, select More options > Copy link.

Open Microsoft Teams (free).

Select Chat from the app bar on the left side of the screen.

Find the person you want to video call.

Select Meet at the top of the screen.

After you see the Meet link copied prompt, paste the link in the reply field and send.
You can invite anyone to join your call by sharing the link with multiple people in your Chat list.
