Menu bar

Menu bar shapes are the background for main menu items such as File, Edit, and Format.

Right-click a Menu bar shape to see the following commands:

  • Lock Menu Bar either locks the menu bar's position (so that it can't be moved in the application window) or unlocks it. If it's unlocked, a column of small dots at the shape's left edge indicates that it can be moved.

  • Show Menu Separator adds a border line on the shape's left edge to distinguish between multiple Menu bar shapes that are positioned side by side.

  • Size options allow you to choose a standard size or set a custom one.

Top-level menu item

File, Edit, and Format are examples of top-level menu items. These shapes are designed to be glued to connection points on the Menu bar shape.

Right-click a Menu bar shape to see the following commands.

Normal indicates that the command is not selected but it is available.

Highlighted indicates that the command is both selected and available.

Disabled indicates that the command is not available.

Tip: When you select a Top-level menu item and type a name for it, the shape changes width to accomodate the text.

Drop-down menu item

New, Open, and Save As are examples of drop-down menu items. They are connected to each other to create a column of commands when the user clicks the top-level menu item. All of the Drop-down menu item shapes in a column should be the width of the widest one.

Right-click a Drop-down menu item shape to see the following commands:

Normal indicates that the command is not selected but it is available.

Highlighted indicates that the command is both selected and available.

Disabled indicates that the command is not available.

Item is selected/checked changes the status of the Drop-down menu item.

Note: This option is only available if the shape's Menu Item Style is set to Checked or Radio in the Menu Item Properties dialog box.

Menu Item Properties allows you to choose different styles (such as radio buttons and cascading menus) for your menu item and allows you to re-position the item's text.
