Use sensitivity label with Microsoft Planner to add an extra layer of protection to your plans. Planner supports sensitivity labels at the plan level; task‑level labelling isn’t supported. All tasks within a plan inherit and honor the restrictions associated with the label applied at the plan level. There are no special licensing requirements, so any user with edit access to the plan can apply a sensitivity label.
-
Users can manually apply sensitivity labels to group backed plans.
-
Users can modify the sensitivity label for group backed plans from Planner app however they can't modify the label for roster backed plans.
Example: Applying sensitivity label to a Plan
The “My Tasks” and “Assigned to Me” views aggregate tasks from multiple plans. Because task‑level sensitivity labelling is not supported, any label‑based restrictions apply only when a user opens the task details and not within the “My Tasks” or “Assigned to Me” views themselves.
Planner experiences most impacted by MIP labels are:
My Plans: When a sensitivity label change revokes a user’s access, the plan may remain visible in My Plans, but the user will be unable to open it and all menu actions will be disabled.
Assigned to Me: Users can still view tasks assigned to them even if they lose plan‑level access; however, task actions will be restricted in line with the applied label’s permissions.
Mobile apps: Plans with restrictive labels may not open in the Planner mobile app. Users will need to access these plans via the web portal or the Teams app.
