With OneNote for Windows 10, your notebooks live in the cloud—either on OneDrive or on SharePoint.
OneDrive is a free cloud-based storage option that's best for personal use, while SharePoint is typically used in larger organizations.
Whenever you create a new notebook with OneNote for Windows 10, it's automatically stored on OneDrive . If you want your new notebook to be stored on SharePoint or Microsoft 365, you'll need to create it with the desktop version of OneNote.
OneNote for Windows 10 supports notebooks in the OneNote 2010-2016 format. If you have notebooks created with older versions of OneNote, such as OneNote 2007 or OneNote 2003, you'll first need to convert them to the 2010-2016 file format. You can convert notebooks from OneNote 2013 or 2016.
