Use the Line Styles tab in the Progress Lines dialog box to set preferences for the way you want to display progress lines. You can:

Change the shape, color, and pattern of the line.

Add shapes to mark where the line connects to task bars.
 - 
            
Display the progress date at the top of each line to clearly identify the lines on your screen and on printed pages.
 - 
            
Differentiate current from past progress lines by changing how they are displayed.
 
Dialog box location
Display a Gantt view. In Project, on the Format tab, click Gridlines and then select Progress Lines. Click the Line Styles tab.
Details
Progress line type section
Click a line type picture to specify how you want progress lines to be drawn.
Line style section
Line type    Indicates the type of line (for example, solid, dashes, or dots). Click the arrow to add or change the line type. For no line, select the first option.
Line color    Indicates the progress line color. Click the arrow to change the color.
Progress point shape    Indicates the shape that displays where progress lines connect to each bar. Click the arrow to add or change the progress point shape. For no shape, select the first option.
Progress point color    Indicates the color of progress line point shapes. Click the arrow to change the color.
Date display section
Show date for each progress line    Select to display a date at the top of each progress line.
Format    Click the date format that you want for the progress line dates.
Change Font    Click to open the Font dialog box and set font options for the progress line dates.
