In your message in classic Outlook, select Options, and choose the dialog launcherÂ
 in the More Options section. If you don't see More Options, then select the ellipsis ( ) and choose Message Options. -
Select Security Settings and then select Encrypt message contents and attachments. If you don't see Security Settings, then just check Encrypt message contents and attachments.

Select OK, and then Close.

Setting up S/MIME encryption requires several things to be in place. S/MIME may not be available for your account.Â

Get a certificate: You need a certificate or digital ID from your organization's administrator. Follow instructions from your administrator to install and use the certificate.

Install the S/MIME control: Open a new message. On the Options tab, select  Encrypt.

When new Outlook prompts you to install the S/MIME control, follow the prompts. When asked to run or save file, select Run. If asked again, select Run again.

Close and reopen new Outlook before using the S/MIME control.
