Compatibility Mode is displayed in the title bar when your version of Word is newer than the one used to create your document. To fix it, save the document in the new .docx file format.

On the File tab, select Save a Copy.

Choose where to save the file.

Select the file drop-down at the top of the page and choose Word Document (.docx).

Turning off compatibility mode isn't currently possible in Word for the web. You can turn it off in the desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop App.
