Turn on Copilot in Word

Note: Turning Copilot on and off in Word is an option for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions.

1. On the File tab, select Options.

2. On the Copilot tab,, check the Enable Copilot box and then select OK.

3. Close and restart Word.

Copilot is always on by default in Word for the web. If you don't have a   Copilot button on the Home tab, see Where can I get Microsoft Copilot?

You can, however, turn Copilot on and off in the Word desktop app.

• To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing and then choose Open in Desktop App.

  

Don't have the Word desktop app? Try or buy Microsoft 365.

1. On the Word menu, select Preferences.

2. On the Copilot tab, select the Enable Copilot checkbox and then close Preferences.

3. Close and restart Word.
