Read receipts in Microsoft Teams (free) let people know when you’ve read their messages, and let you know when they’ve read yours. When a message is read, a Seen notification Seen notification will appear next to the message in the chat window. Otherwise, you'll receive a confirmation that your message was Sent Sent notification.

Read receipts are enabled by default and are available in group chats and one-on-one chats.

Teams mobile read receipts

To verify who’s read your message in a chat, tap and hold the message, then tap Seen by.

Tip: Everyone will have to have read receipts turned On for messages to be counted as Seen.

To turn read receipts on or off:

  1. Tap your profile picture or More More button, then tap Settings Settings button.

  2. Tap Messaging Chat button.

  3. Turn Readreceipts on or off.

  1. Open Microsoft Teams (free).

    Tips: 

    • From the mini Teams window in Windows 11, select the button The open Teams button in Mini Teams. to open Microsoft Teams (free).

    • From Chat in Windows 11, select the Open Teams button  Teams open Teams in Windows 11.

  2. Select Settings and more More options button near your profile picture.

  3. Select Settings Settings button.

  4. Select Privacy Teams new privacy button.

  5. Turn Readreceipts on or off.
