Connect shapes

Use connectors to show the relationships between shapes in flowcharts, organization charts, and other diagrams.

Automatically connect shapes

  1. Go to View, and make sure AutoConnect is selected.

  2. Point to a shape, and point to the arrow that indicates the direction of the next shape you want to add.

  3. Select the shape you want to add and connect.

Add a moveable connection to a shape

In a dynamic connection, when you move one of the connected shapes, the connector moves with it and may move to a different connection point on the shape.

  1. Select Home > Connector.

  2. Point to the center of a shape until you see a green outline around it.

  3. Draw a line to the center of the shape you want to connect to.
    You’ll see a green outline around the shape when the shapes are connected.

  4. Select Home > Pointer Tool to return to normal editing.

Add a fixed connection to a shape

In a point connection, the connector endpoint stays glued to the same connection point when you move a shape.

  1. Select Home > Connector.

  2. Point to a shape until you see the connection points around the edge.

  3. Select a connection point and draw a line to a connection point on the shape you want to connect to.
    The connector endpoints turn green when the shapes are connected.

  4. Select Home > Pointer Tool.

Move a connection point

  1. Select the connector endpoint you want to move.

  2. Drag it to the center of another shape to create a dynamic connection or to a different connection point to create a point connection.

Delete a connection point

  1. Select the shape with a connection point that you want to delete.

  2. Select Home > Connection Point.

  3. Select the connection point you want to delete.

  4. Press Del.

  5. Select Home > Pointer Tool.
