Word automatically displays the word count in the status bar near the lower-left corner of the window.
To see more details, including page, paragraph, and character count, or to include textboxes and footnotes in the total, on the Review tab, select Word Count.
Tip: To count the words in part of a document, select the words and view the selected and total count in the status bar.Â

Select a group of words to see the count for only those words.

If the word count isn't visible, on the Review tab, select Word Count > Show Word Count.

To see more details, including pages and reading score, on the Review tab, select Word Count > Word Count.
