The work offline option disconnects you from the mail server. Use this option when you don't want to receive new email.

In classic Outlook, on the ribbon, select Send/Receive > Work Offline. When you're working offline, the button is selected (indicated by a gray background on the button).

To work online, select the Work Offline button so that the option is turned off.

In the new Outlook for Windows, offline email, calendar, and contacts lets you store recent Outlook data on your device so that you can see it even when you're not connected to the internet.

In Mail, select the View tab, then select
View settings. -
Select General > Offline.

Under Folders to save, open the dropdown list and select the option you want.

Under Days of email to save, open the dropdown list and select the time period you want.

In Outlook for Mac, ​o​​​​n the Outlook menu, select Work Offline. (When you're working offline, the option is selected—indicated by a check mark.)
Tip: When you want to resume working online, select the Go Online button located just below the app title bar.
