Symptoms

When you try to access some shared resources from a Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based or Windows Server 2008 SP2-based computer, the computer crashes. Additionally, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

STOP: 0x00000027 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)

Notes

  • The parameters in this Stop error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.

  • Not all "Stop 0x00000027" errors are caused by this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because the system performs an incorrect action when a file control block (FCB) is orphaned.
